Concept Smoke Systems and Minerva Simulators Collaborate to Upgrade Severn Park Fire & Rescue Training Centre
In a significant enhancement to UK firefighter training facilities, Concept Smoke Systems has partnered with Minerva Simulators Ltd to deliver state-of-the-art smoke generation technology to Babcock’s Severn Park Fire & Rescue Training Centre — one of the UK’s premier firefighter training facilities.
Upgrading Fire Training with Cutting-Edge Smoke Simulation
The project saw the installation of the ViCount smoke systems, paired with the VBL6 centrifugal fan, all housed within stainless steel IP-rated enclosures. These robust enclosures protect the equipment from the elements, as the units were mounted externally on the training buildings.
This installation ensures that realistic, high-quality smoke conditions can be generated consistently and safely during training exercises, giving firefighters a more immersive and effective training experience.
Why the ViCount System?
The ViCount smoke generator is widely recognised across emergency services and safety industries for its exceptional performance and efficiency. The system produces dense, temperature-resistant smoke that behaves like real fire smoke, crucial for simulating real-world conditions inside training structures.
Key benefits include:
- Exceptional Fuel Efficiency: The ViCount consumes significantly less smoke fluid compared to traditional systems, without compromising on smoke density or duration.
- High Reliability: At the core of the system is a precision-machined heat exchanger, automatically purged after every activation. This feature extends operational life and minimises maintenance requirements.
- Automatic Refilling System: The systems were installed with an automated fluid replenishment unit, allowing for uninterrupted operation during extended training sessions — a crucial feature for high-volume training centres like Severn Park.
- Durability: The stainless steel IP-rated housing ensures the equipment remains protected from harsh weather conditions and mechanical damage, making it ideal for outdoor use.
Supporting Firefighter Excellence
By selecting the ViCount and associated equipment, Minerva Simulators and Concept Smoke Systems have ensured that Babcock’s Severn Park Training Centre continues to operate at the cutting edge of fire and rescue training. Realistic smoke conditions are essential for building the muscle memory and situational awareness firefighters need to perform under pressure.
This collaboration not only improves the quality of training for firefighters from across the UK and beyond, but also reinforces the importance of investing in durable, efficient, and realistic training infrastructure to prepare first responders for the challenges they face in the field.
