Bringing Bond to Life: Smoke Screen Innovation for the 007 Goldfinger DB5

Concept Smoke Systems partnered with renowned special effects supervisor Chris Corbould and luxury automaker Aston Martin to develop a bespoke smoke screen system for the limited-edition 007 Goldfinger DB5 Continuation cars. This collaboration brought one of James Bond’s most iconic gadgets to life, seamlessly integrating movie magic into a fully drivable vehicle.

A Tribute to an Iconic Legacy

Aston Martin’s decision to produce just 25 DB5 Goldfinger Continuation cars was a tribute to the original 1964 model famously driven by Sean Connery’s James Bond. Each car was meticulously handcrafted to mirror the original, complete with functioning gadgets that captured the essence of the legendary spy thriller. The inclusion of a working smoke screen system was critical to authentically replicating the vehicle’s on-screen capabilities.

Engineering the Smoke Screen System

Leveraging their expertise in advanced smoke generation, Concept Smoke Systems worked closely with Chris Corbould—who has overseen special effects on numerous Bond films—to design a system that was both compact and high-performing. The result was a bespoke smoke generator installed beneath the vehicle, equipped with a stainless-steel nozzle for optimal dispersion and an integrated blower to direct the smoke and maximise the dramatic visual effect. The dense, non-toxic smoke could be deployed on demand, achieving an impact that matched—and even surpassed—the cinematic original.

Exclusivity Meets Functionality

Only 25 of the DB5 Goldfinger Continuation cars were produced, each priced at approximately £2.75 million plus taxes. These collector’s items were sold to discerning buyers who value the intersection of classic automotive design and cutting-edge special effects. While the identities of the buyers remain confidential, the cars’ exclusivity and real-world gadgetry have made them highly coveted within the collector’s market.

A Fusion of Cinema and Engineering

The collaboration between Concept Smoke Systems, Chris Corbould, and Aston Martin is a testament to the enduring legacy of the James Bond franchise and the power of innovation. By bringing cinematic gadgetry into real-world applications, this project honoured the spirit of the original DB5 while setting a new benchmark for immersive automotive experiences.
