Concept’s ViCount Hazer Brings Atmosphere to 14‑18 Spektakel

The immersive historical theatre event 14‑18 Spektakel relied heavily on atmospheric effects to recreate the trench‑war ambience of World War I. Central to the sensory experience was the use of the Concept ViCount Hazer, delivering dense, consistent haze that elevated lighting design to cinematic levels.

Lighting ‘Painted’ with Smoke

Under lighting director Luc Peumans of Painting With Light, the ViCount-generated haze became an essential visual canvas:

“They continue with incredibly detailed and beautiful lighting by the ‘painter of light’ himself, Luc Peumans”

The haze allowed beams and textures of light to be visible, sculpting the space and deepening the sense of immersion. A review noted:

“A serious amount of smoke machines and hazers are located around the space and are an integral element of the lighting brief”

Why the ViCount Hazer?

The ViCount — part of Concept’s Hazer family — is renowned for:

  • Ultra-fine particles (0.2–0.3 µm) for smooth, atmospheric haze

  • Minimal fluid usage, generating dense effects with only 10–20 % of the fluid required by conventional water-based haze

  • Controllable output, from gentle mists to full volumetric haze

By integrating the ViCount Hazer throughout the event, the 14‑18 Spektakel team succeeded in transforming stage lighting into visual storytelling. Concept’s state-of-the-art haze technology helped “paint with light,” immersing audiences in an emotionally rich and transportive WWI experience.
